How To Properly Store Your Boat For The Off Season

by David Diaz

If you live in a region where you are not going to use your boat all year, you will need to store it away properly in order to protect its condition. This will help ensure that your boat will be able to be easily prepared to head back out on the water once the next boating season arrives. To do this, you will want to consider using the following tips.

Find A Boat Storage Facility

If there is not a boat dock that you can rent a space at or if you simply do not like the idea of leaving your boat out like that, you will want to search for a suitable boat storage facility. You may be able to find a facility that has space to store your boat in an indoor storage unit so that your boat is better protected from the elements. Otherwise, the storage facility may simply give you a space outside where you can drop your boat, usually behind a locked fence so your boat is less likely to be messed with by criminals.

Keep It Covered

Whether your boat is going to be stored indoors or outside, you will want to make sure that you cover it with a proper boat cover. This is to make sure that everything from the rain to insects are not going to land on the interior of your boat. After all, while your boat is in storage during the off season, it is not as likely that you will come out often enough to keep it clean from the random debris that could land in it. You might not want bird droppings and insects all over the interior of your boat, since you would have to clean them up before you could actually take you boat back out once the weather warms back up

Check On The Fluid Levels

You will want to make sure that the fluid levels in the boat's mechanical area are exactly where they need to be. Some people will actually opt to drain the oil or coolant in order to make sure that it does not go bad throughout the cold winter months, especially since the boat will not be turned on for so long. If you choose to do that, you will need to make sure that you remember to refill all of the fluids that you drained out before you start the boat up again.

With all of that in mind, you should find that you are going to have an easier time storing your boat.

About Me

using a storage unit to organize a hoarded household

My mother turned into a bit of a hoarder when all of us kids moved out. It has been ten years since any of us lived with her and in that time, she managed to fill three bedrooms with all sorts of things that she really didn't need. All of that stuff was keeping her from being able to house my brothers when they came into town, so I offered to help her get organized. The first thing I did was found a storage unit nearby to rent. On this blog you will find tips for using a storage unit to organize a hoarded household.
